Cambridge: Former nightclub replaced by 227 housing units

CAMBRIDGE --- Developers of a derailed housing complex recently announced that project is back on track to be created. The proposal includes the razing of the former Faces nightclub at 223 Concord Turnpike and the creation of 227 units of rental housing in its place. If the city council approves this revived plan, construction could begin later this year.

Yarmouth: Former school rehabbed to create senior units

YARMOUTH --- The town is working with Stratford Capital Group to rehabilitate the former John Simpkins Elementary School into affordable senior apartments. The project, estimated to cost $15 million, will create 65 affordable housing units for residents ages 65 and over. Construction is expected to be completed in the spring or summer of 2012.

Arlington: HCA buys 3 buildings to convert into rental units

ARLINGTON --- The Housing Corporation of Arlington (HCA) recently finalized the purchase of three historic apartment buildings along Massachusetts Avenue that they plans to convert into 32 units of affordable rental housing.

Cambridge: Developer presents affordable project to community

CAMBRIDGE --- On Tuesday, November 30 Just A Start Corporation will present their project plans for a new affordable housing complex to community members. The new building, called Elm Place, will include 19 affordable rental units and one retail space. The building is set to open in May 2011 and applications for the units will be available starting on November 29.

Westport: Town looking to built eight affordable units

WESTPORT --- The Affordable Housing Commission (AHC) recently announced that their organization is looking at the possibility of building as many as eight affordable housing duplex units on School Street. The units would be built on a 3.5 acre plot that has been owned by the town since 1949.

BOSTON --- The Boston Redevelopment Authority (BRA) recently approved five new residential developments in neighborhoods scattered throughout the city. In total, the new projects will create 438 units of housing of which 266 units will be affordable.
