NORWOOD --- The Finley family's plans to turn their 7.82 acre site into 298-unit Ch. 40R smart growth apartment complex met with stiff opposition as neighbors packed a recent selectman's meeting and presented a petition with 195 signatures from residents who oppose the project.

Easton: Queset 40R, public improvements back on track

EASTON --- Approved by the town in 2008 but stalled due to the economy, the 280-unit, mixed-use Queset Commons 40R development is back on track, with the assisted-living component now out and the first phase calling for 98 apartments, 25 percent of the them affordable. In negotiating with the town, developer Douglas A. King Builders Inc. agreed to fund $2 million in public improvements that include eight acres of open space, renovation of a fire station, 50,000 gallons per day of reserved capacity for the town in the project's wastewater plant, intersection improvements, funding of a clean water information campaign and construction of walking trails to town land. The town estimates the project could net $1.8 million in revenue over the next 10 years.

Walpole: OKs plan in hopes of gaining more control over 40Bs

WALPOLE --- Anxious to gain the ability to control developer attempts to build housing through Chapter 40B, selectmen have approved an affordable housing plan, which if approved by the state, would give the town more control over 40B proposals, providing the town adds affordable housing as planned. The plan - done by PCG Associates - said Walpole should look into affordable housing for seniors and first-time homebuyers, and identify areas in town where affordable housing would be appropriate.

Sudbury: 2 projects will push senior housing supply to 300

SUDBURY --- Two senior housing developments have begun construction this summer and when they are completed, they will push the town's supply of senior-only housing to nearly 300 units. The Coolidge at Sudbury will add 64 apartments while the Dudley Brook Preserve will have 26 condominiums. Coolidge, which is being constructed by B'nai B'rith Housing, is anticipating opening to residents in mid-2014; Dudley Brook, being developed by the Green Co., could have models available as soon as this fall.

Boston: Mayor, neighbors seem to agree on Uphams site's future

BOSTON, Aug. 6, 2013 --- A pivotal Uphams Corner property near the Fairmount commuter rail became embroiled in controversy recently after neighbors learned that the city was discussing turning the former industrial site into a public works yard. The news surprised local stakeholders, who have been advocating that the city-owned site become a mixed-use transit-oriented development. The controversey died down when a spokesperson for Mayor Thomas Menino said that the mayor "agrees" with the neighbors.
