Worcester: Ribbon-cutting for 84 apartments at Voke Lofts

WORCESTER --- State and local officials recently celebrated the ribbon-cutting ceremony for a completed adaptive reuse project at the site of a former vocational school. Called Voke Lofts, the 116,306 residential building is made up of 84 mixed-income apartments, half of which will be restricted to households with incomes between 30 and 60 percent of the area median income. The development also includes a community room with a kitchen, a computer learning center and a play area for children.

SHREWSBURY --- After receiving indications that three developers will be seeking comprehensive permits to build large 40B apartment complexes, selectmen this week appointed two if its members to work on a so­-called 'friendly 40B' request for proposals, which the board says will allow the town to be proactive rather than reactive when it comes to affordable housing developments.

CAMBRIDGE --- The Cambridge Housing Authority (CHA) has begun construction on a new apartment building for low- and moderate-income households on the site of a former YWCA swimming pool in Central Square. Temple Place Apartments will consist of 40 units of affordable housing and is expected to open in 2015.

SPRINGFIELD, Monday, July 7, 2014 - Governor Deval Patrick today announced $83.6 million in funding to create 24 affordable housing projects across the state, building on the Patrick Administration's commitment to improving housing infrastructure to support growth and opportunity throughout the Commonwealth. In all, the projects will create 1,328 units of housing and over 2,000 jobs

PLYMOUTH --- Ten years after it was first proposed, a long dormant 60-unit homeownership 40B has begun construction on the first 20 homes, much to the surprise of neighbors who reportedly thought the project was dead.

Hingham: 16-unit condo project proposed for Main St.

HINGHAM --- A 16-unit condominium development has been proposed for 895-901 Main Street. The development would be built under Chapter 40B with four of the units reserved as affordable for income-eligible buyers. The Zoning Board of Appeals (ZBA) will complete its written decision on the project by the end of July.
