Fall River: Hopes to reposition south side for housing

FALL RIVER --- The Planning Department will hold a public meeting soon to identify southern sections of the city that could qualify for the state's Housing Development Incentive Program, which provides incentives to gateway cities to build market-rate housing. Of particular interest is the city-owned King Philip Mill, which the city has been trying to sell for years.

Boston: Seaport builder asks for affordability cut

BOSTON --- Lincoln Property Co. has asked the city to reduce the number of affordable units in its 304-unit mixed-use development from 40 to 22, instead offering to pay $4 million into the city's housing trust fund. Advocates have criticized the move, saying letting developers opt out of creating affordable housing is pushing longtime residents out of neighborhoods.
