BOSTON, January 22, 2024 --- Less than a week after her State of the Commonwealth address in which she vowed to tackle rising housing costs, Governor Maura Healey announced the commitment of resources to support production and preservation of more than 1,900 housing units in 19 communities across the state. Ninety percent will be income restricted. The award provides $138 million on top of $100 million in state and federal tax credits. All 26 applicants received awards.

The governor was joined by Lt. Governor Kim Driscoll and Secretary of the Executive Office of Housing and Livable Communities Ed Augustus in making the announcement of the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit awards at Blessed Sacrament Church in Jamaica Plain. MHP provided a letter of support for the development, which is co-sponsored by Pennrose and Hyde Square Task Force. Blessed Sacrament will create 55 units of mixed-income housing.

In a statement of support MHP Executive Director Clark Ziegler said, “Today’s funding awards represent another major step forward by the Healey-Driscoll Administration to expand housing opportunities and reduce pressure on rents through the development and preservation of affordable housing. The Massachusetts Housing Partnership is pleased to support that effort by making long-term fixed rate mortgage financing available to many of these developments at below-market interest rates.”
