Patrick targets $108M for affordable rental housing

CHELSEA, April 3, 2009 --- As part of his Massachusetts Recovery Plan, Gov. Deval Patrick announced today that he will target $108 million in public funds and tax credits to help support mor than 2,000 affordabable units in 39 rental housing projects across Massachusetts.

"It is important that we use every resource available to build more rental housing that is affordable to wage earners at all income levels and help create jobs," said Gov. Patrick.

Gov. Patrick made the announcement at the Spencer Row Development in Chelsea, which will receive $1.75 million in tax credits and other public funds for the redevelopment of a former woodworking mill into 32 affordable rental apartments.

Project funding will support 39 developments in the following communities: Athol, Boston (10 projects), Billerica, Cambridge, Chelsea (2 projects), Fall River, Gloucester, Greenfield, Harwich, Lawrence (2 projects), Leominster, Longmeadow, Lowell (3 projects), Marshfield, New Bedford, Northampton, North Andover, Salem, Somerville, Springfield, Townsend, Tyngsboro, Wareham (2 projects), Weymouth and Worcester.
