Register for in-person fair housing marketing and lottery training

Posted on November 1, 2023

BOSTON --- MHP, MassHousing and the state Executive Office of Housing and Livable Communities will host two in-person trainings on Affirmative Fair Housing Marketing (AFHM) and lotteries. The dates are Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2023, and Thursday, March 14, 2024. Both will run from 9:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and will be held at 100 High Street, Boston, MA 02110 on the 9th floor.

The one-day trainings are designed for those working in rental management, municipal government, community development and at regional housing organizations, who are looking to become certified lottery and monitoring agents.

The first half of the training will provide the legal foundations of fair housing and elements of AFHMP requirements. The second half will feature a step-by-step guide to the lottery process. Attention will be paid to lotteries for both homeownership and rental units as well as post-lottery waiting list management. Topics include identifying the roles and responsibilities of lottery and monitoring agents, how to include preference for lotteries and the role of the community.

Attendees will receive a certification of attendance. This certification, combined with Certified Occupancy Specialist Accreditation or other income determination training, will meet the qualifications of most organizations to conduct affordable homeownership and rental lotteries and lease-ups.

Individuals must attend the entire training to be eligible for certification. Registration will be capped at 75 people to ensure a maximum learning experience. Refunds will not be issued to registrants who do not attend the training.
