Current Opportunity: MHP is looking for a Sustainability Program Manager to play a key role in managing affordable housing funding programs with a focus on climate-related initiatives, including the Climate Ready Housing Program. In this role, you will collaborate with internal teams, state agencies, developers, and subsidy awardees to oversee program operations from application to award and closing. You will also help advance the

Commonwealth’s affordable housing decarbonization goals and MHP’s climate-related work.

How you will make an impact: This position offers a dynamic scope of responsibilities that will draw upon your climate-related experience, keep you engaged and support MHP’s mission including:

  • Manage and administer legislatively funded programs, with a particular focus on Climate Ready Housing (CRH), but including the Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) and the Workforce Housing Program (WFH).
  • Oversee subsidy loan closings: coordinate with awardees and legal counsel, review underwriting reports, budgets, and disbursement requests, and manage invoice approvals and project closeouts.
  • Conduct underwriting due diligence, including financial capacity analysis, operating projections, and funding source reviews.
  • Prepare program award letters, assist with strategic planning, and report on program status to state agencies.
  • Build strong relationships with internal teams, developers, and state housing officials; maintain program guidance and marketing materials.
  • Collaborate with external partners in the review of funding applications for applicable subsidy resources, particular with CRH program funds.
  • Coordinate site events for CRH projects and assist in producing program case studies

Support of MHP’s climate-related initiatives, including but not limited to energy benchmarking and related analyses of CRH projects and MHP loans, case study production for MHP’s Green & Healthy Housing (G&HH) loans, integration of building performance-related project information within MHP’s lending and portfolio management data systems, and assisting with climate-related trainings and presentations (both internal and external).

Required Knowledge, Experience and Skills:

  • 3-5 years of affordable housing project management and/or affordable housing finance experience
  • Experience analyzing real estate development budgets and operating proformas.
  • Ability to understand and interpret loan and regulatory documents
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines while maintaining consistently high-quality work.
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently
  • Experienced with using Microsoft Office
  • Demonstrated interest in, experience with and/or education around high performance and sustainable building

Compensation: The budgeted compensation for this role is $90,000 to $95,000. Any final offer will be based on various factors including job-related knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience. The listed range is just one component of MHP's total compensation package for employees.

Work Location and Schedule: The Sustainability Program Manager role is designated as Hybrid which includes both in-office and remote workdays. Positions designated as Hybrid are required to work out of the Boston office two days per week during the first 90 days of employment and may have the opportunity to reduce regular in-office days thereafter upon management approval. This position requires use of MHP’s hybrid workplace scheduling software to reserve office desk space each week. At least one office day must be on Tuesday, the designated team day.
