Current Opportunity: As an integral member of the Community Assistance team, the Senior Planner will support collaborative efforts to advance affordable housing development, preservation, and stewardship by providing technical assistance, facilitating planning initiatives, and promoting effective local policies. Key responsibilities include building strong relationships with municipal stakeholders and community groups, delivering targeted training and workshops, and representing the organization’s housing policy agenda through active participation in committees and industry forums. In this role, you will bring strong planning expertise and a collaborative spirit to guide municipalities, regional agencies, and community groups as they navigate housing policy, development opportunities, and local planning tools. You will contribute your professional insights, facilitate dialogue, and help translate complex regulations into practical pathways of growth.

Responsibilities: As a Senior Planner, you will take on a mix of planning, policy, and community-facing work each day, all contributing to an impactful role advancing affordable housing throughout the Commonwealth.

Compensation: The budgeted compensation for this role is $102,000 to $115,000. Any final offer will be based on various factors including job-related knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience. The listed range is just one component of MHP's total compensation package for employees.

Hybrid Schedule Policy: The Senior Planner role is designated as Hybrid which includes both in-office and remote workdays. Positions designated as Hybrid are required to work out of the Boston office two days per week during the first 90 days of employment and may have the opportunity to reduce regular in-office days thereafter upon management approval. This position requires use of MHP’s hybrid workplace scheduling software to reserve office desk space each week. At least one office day must be the designated team day. MHP’s office is conveniently located minutes from South Station. The position will utilize an MHP laptop which must be transported to and from the MHP office.
Knowledge, Experience and Skills: The successful candidate will bring a strong foundation in planning, affordable housing, and community-focused work. These qualifications reflect the strengths that will enable the next Senior Planner to excel in the role.
Travel: Travel will be required within Massachusetts. A current driver’s license and/or access to reliable transportation is required in order to attend community meetings as well as local and MHP events throughout the state.
