MHP's Portfolio Management team is participating in the the Subsidized Housing Emergency Rental Assistance Program (SHERA), which provides funding to owners of affordable housing properties when their residents have fallen behind on their rent due to COVID-19.

The program helps low- and moderate-income families, elders, and single individuals living in affordable housing and housing authority properties. By requiring owners to make the applications for funds on behalf of their tenants, SHERA delivers funds quickly by minimizing paperwork for residents, property owners and property managers.

The state Department of Housing and Community Development, MHP and MassHousing have created a SHERA web portal where owners can apply. Additional resources here include:

Important rental assistance update: SHERA will stop accepting new applications on or around April 15, 2022. Households will be able to apply for rental assistance from the more targeted, state-funded RAFT program. More information at mass.gov.
