MHP is seeking a Senior Research Analyst to provide research and analytical support for its CENTER FOR HOUSING DATA team. This team produces data-driven public policy research to enhance the housing conversation across the Commonwealth. The Senior Research Analyst will assist the Center for Housing Data staff with data management, statistical analysis, GIS assignments, and data visualization tasks. The Senior Research Analyst will be an active partner in developing research methods, conducting analytical tasks, writing code, maintaining and developing new products and publications, and presenting and marketing results to a broad set of stakeholders. This unique position is ideal for candidates looking to build on existing strong analytical skills at a fast-paced, mission-driven organization.
Specific responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, conducting analysis to support MHP’s Center for Housing Data in its efforts to communicate critical housing issues and drive better policy outcomes; assisting with project management responsibilities, including drafting research plans, timelines, tracking deliverables, and data management; providing GIS support and other geographical analysis; performing data collection tasks and managing databases; seeking out novel data sources that will advance the Center’s research interests; creating data visualizations that effectively communicate quantitative information to a wide, non-technical audiences; contributing to research papers; presenting findings to outside audiences; maintaining and enhancing Center for Housing Data web products; and supporting other functional teams at MHP with research and data support as needed.
Applicants must have experience with ArcGIS, R programming or similar statistical computing software and/or coding language, experience managing and conducting research projects, experience working with key data sets, such as the Decennial Census, American Community Survey, Bureau of Labor Statistics and other data sources preferred, advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office products, excellent organizational and time management skills, creative problem-solving and the ability to seek out new analytical resources and techniques, and design or data visualization skills (preferred).
Qualifications include: Bachelor’s Degree in public policy, data science, or related field, or equivalent experience; demonstrated interest in affordable housing, community development or public policy; excellent research, writing, verbal and interpersonal skills; relevant job experience strongly preferred; ability to juggle multiple priorities and work effectively both independently and as part of a team. MHP is currently operating a fully remote platform. We are beginning to review plans for a safe post-COVID return to office operation. The successful candidate for this position will be required to work in our Boston office and travel within the state as needed upon reopening.
