Current Opportunity:

As the Senior Accountant your primary objective will be to support and promote excellence in financial operations. Focus will be on ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficiency in the management of grants and programs as well as general accounting operations. Your contributions will play a vital role in supporting the integrity of financial processes, fostering collaboration, and driving continuous improvement initiatives which promote the organization’s mission and long-term success.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

Grant and Program Accounting

  • Responsible for all grant and program billings and revenue and maintain AR.
  • Prepare monthly and annual grant/program financial statements/reports, for reasonableness and accuracy, make corrections as needed.
  • Communicate and collaborate with finance team members on executed contracts and new budgets.
  • Ensure accurate and timely reporting of grant and contract budgets and expenditure reports.

General Accounting

  • Handle AP, verifying payment documentation, referencing outstanding bills, updating debt balance, and conducting disbursement for grants/ programs.
  • Process the bi-weekly payroll and record in Intacct.
  • Monthly bank and general ledger account reconciliations including loans and notes payable, identifying and thoroughly investigating any discrepancies and taking the proper actions to resolve them.
  • Cash borrower receipts processing.
  • Perform complex accounting tasks, including journal entries, reconciliations, and verifying MHP financial transactions.
  • Responsible for managing financial functions including bookkeeping, accounts payable and receivable.
  • Prepare invoices and maintain accounting records and files.

Audit and more

  • Assist with annual audit and preparation of financial statements under GAAP for not-for-profit organizations.
  • Quarterly property tax processing.
  • Assist with continuous improvement of processes.

Compensation:

The compensation range for this role is $85,000 to $95,000. Any final offer will be based on various factors including job-related knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience. The listed range is just one component of MHP's total compensation package for employees.

Hybrid Schedule Policy:

The Staff Accountant role is designated as Hybrid which includes both in-office and remote workdays. Positions designated as Hybrid are required to work out of the Boston office two days per week during the first 90 days of employment and may have the opportunity to reduce regular in-office days thereafter upon management approval. This position requires use of MHP’s hybrid workplace scheduling software to reserve office desk space each week. At least one office day must be on Wednesday, the designated team day. The position will utilize an MHP laptop which must be transported to and from the MHP office. MHP’s office is conveniently located minutes from South Station

Knowledge, Experience and Skills:

  • B.A. degree in accounting or finance.
  • 5+ years in accounting with a significant focus on grants management.
  • Strong knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and grant accounting regulations.
  • Demonstrated experience with financial reporting.
  • Experience with fund accounting systems, preferably Sage Intacct
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Ability to work well with diverse personalities and under tight deadlines
  • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data and make recommendations.
  • Proven experience in managing multiple priorities
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
