About Us:

MHP, a non-profit public agency, is a national leader in affordable housing finance. When breakthrough studies linked a racial wealth gap to unequal access to homeownership opportunities, MHP worked in collaboration with key partners in the non-profit, public, and private banking worlds to create its flagship home buying program: the SoftSecond Loan Program. Combined with its successor, the ONE Mortgage Program, MHP has spent 30 years helping more than 23,000 low- to moderate-income first-time homebuyers—half of whom are people of color—achieve their dream of homeownership. MHP has continued to grow and manage critical programs, mostly recently with the Massachusetts Homeowner Assistance Fund (HAF). This $150+ million program will provide mortgage relief and financial assistance to residents of the Commonwealth to help them avoid foreclosure. Looking ahead, MHP is excited to infuse its homeownership programs with American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funding to better meet the needs of low- and moderate-income first-time homebuyers. Current Opportunity:

We are seeking a Business Development Manager who will be an essential and crucial member of MHP’s Homeownership team. The person in this position will play a key role within MHP by leading our efforts to engage, recruit, onboard, and retain lending partners who offer our various homeownership programs. The role’s primary focus will be on designing and implementing an effective lender outreach strategy to grow our number of participating lenders, thereby increasing statewide loan volume. The person in this position will call on existing and prospective lenders to identify their CRA-related mortgage lending needs and how they align with MHP’s programs and efforts to more readily provide affordable mortgage options to underserved households and households of color. The Business Development Manager is an opportunity to work across sectors, bridging the gap between publicly funded homeownership assistance programs and the private lending community.

This position provides an opportunity to combine subject matter expertise and an entrepreneurial mindset to make an impact on affordable housing options for Massachusetts residents. Your day-to-day responsibilities will include the following:

Develop and maintain detailed and ongoing knowledge of MHP’s homeownership programs and products; Stay current on trends affecting home purchase lending, including affordable mortgage products, innovative new ideas, public policy, and availability of public and private resources; Establish lender relationships as a trusted advisor, including providing technical assistance as needed; Organize and participate in joint calls with loan officers, sales managers, product managers, CRA officers, and/or senior management to develop and enhance customer relationships and market MHP’s mortgage programs; Identify and attend customer events and industry conferences to elevate MHP’s visibility in the marketplace and further enhance relationships; Develop and maintain a well-organized set of email distribution lists and contacts used to communicate relevant program updates, happenings, events, and other related matters.

Experience and skills:

Success and fulfillment in this role will be supported by the skills, knowledge and experience the person brings. MHP is looking for candidates who have following as we believe they are the foundation for achievement and effectiveness in the role.

At least 8 years of experience in affordable mortgage lending, with a focus on offering and/or implementing innovative and new products preferred; Strong sales, negotiation, communication, and customer relationship management skills; Excellent organizational, writing, and interpersonal skills; Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment; Strong computer skills (including Microsoft Office) and knowledge of social media platforms (including Linked-In and Twitter); Experience with customer relationship management systems and/or knowledge or marketing automation functions a plus; Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, economics, or related field or equivalent experience, skills and knowledge.
