Massachusetts Foundation for Growth

A chronic shortage of private sector housing production hinders our economy. To address this, MHP has launched the Foundation for Growth research project, using grant funding from State Street Bank. This project will analyze how much housing Massachusetts needs to grow its economy and what strategies and policies are needed to achieve housing and economic growth.

Foundation for Growth kicked off in 2009 with a report entitled Recipe for Growth. Written by economist Ed Moscovitch, this analysis of 242 U.S. metro areas found that housing construction is one of the top predictors of economic growth.

Three research teams have been selected to research the next three phases of the project and a dedicated web site has been launched so you can follow the project's progress and participate in on-line discussions on this issue. For more information, go to www.massgrowth.net.
