Non-profit Support

Community development corporations (CDCs) and non-profit housing developers need a stable operating base in order to increase affordable housing production. Recognizing this, MHP has used grant funds from Bank of America to support a variety of programs designed to help non-profits deal with present-day challenges and opportunities. Here's a brief summary of these programs.

MHP rolled out this program in the spring of 2005 with over $2.4 million in grants to non-profits. A total of 41 organizations were assisted in ways ranging from one-time grants for staff training to multi-year grants to support increased affordable housing production. Grants were distributed across the state to both large and small organizations. For more on this program, click here.

In 2008, MHP made a second round of multi-year grants to 40 non-profits, totaling $4 million. The funds are intended to help advance development projects and many of the recipients work in areas hard-hit by foreclosures. For more on this program, click here.

As part of its 2008 Production Support Program, MHP awarded Capacity Innovation Grants (CIG) to eight organizations working to make affordable housing production more efficient.

Four of these grants were awarded to encourage collaboration between non-profit developers and service providers to develop supportive housing for homeless individuals or families. For more information, read the summary report and a proposal to create a new state program that would integrate the funding of homeless supportive services with the development of housing for the homeless.
