Board of Directors
Christopher Oddleifson, Chairman
Christopher Oddleifson was elected Chairman of MHP’s board of directors in January 2011.
He is the President and Chief Executive Officer of Rockland Trust Company and its parent, Independent Bank Corp. Rockland Trust has $4.7 billion in assets and 86 retail branches and offices located throughout Southeastern Massachusetts and in Rhode Island.
Mr. Oddleifson serves on the Board of Directors of both the Massachusetts Bankers Association and the Consumer Bankers Association, and he is a Trustee of the South Shore Hospital Health and Education Foundation, a Trustee of the Cape Cod Community College, a member of the Executive Committee of the Old Colony Council's Boy Scouts of America and Honorary Campaign Chairman of the United Way of Greater Plymouth County's Leadership Giving Campaign.
He is the former President of First Union Home Equity Bank, a national bank subsidiary of First Union Corporation (now Wachovia). Until its acquisition by First Union, Mr. Oddleifson was the Executive Vice President, responsible for Consumer Banking, for Signet Bank in Richmond, VA.
He holds a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Cornell University and a Master's Degree in Business Administration from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.
Vincent C. Manzi, Vice Chairman
Vin Manzi was originally appointed to the MHP Advisory Board in 1985 and has been a board member since 1990. He was named vice chair in December, 2003.
Mr. Manzi joined his father in the practice of law in 1974 and formed the firm of Manzi and McCann in 1980. His area of practice is primarily in the area of real estate development and corporate representation.
He is presently serving on numerous community organizations including the Merrimack Valley Economic Development Council as treasurer and director, the Greater Lawrence Community Boating Program and director of the SRO Board of the Merrimack Valley YMCA.
His former affiliations include director of Central Catholic High School, Trustee of the Lawrence General Hospital and director of the Lawyers Clearinghouse on Affordable Housing.
Mr. Manzi graduated from Villanova in 1971 with a Bachelor of Arts and Political Science and received his Juris Doctor from Suffolk University in 1974.
John R. Heerwagen, Secretary/Treasurer
John R. Heerwagen is Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer for Middlesex Savings Bank. Headquartered in Natick, Massachusetts, Middlesex Savings Bank is the second largest mutual bank in Massachusetts, and the sixth largest mutual bank in the country, with assets exceeding $4 billion and 31 branch locations.
Heerwagen began his career at Middlesex Savings Bank in 2002 as Senior Vice President and later as First Executive Vice President, responsible for much of the bank’s activities, including retail lending, loan operations, credit administration, legal compliance, community relations and retail investments. He was named President in 2006 and Chairman and CEO in 2007.
Heerwagen began his banking career in 1979 as a Director and then Deputy Commissioner of Banks, Massachusetts Division of Banks. He then served as Director of Corporate Affairs and Bank Operations for the Savings Banks Association of Massachusetts. Prior to joining Middlesex, he served in executive roles at Andover Bank and First Mutual Bank.
Heerwagen has served on a variety of committees and boards. He is a current member of the 495/MetroWest Corridor Partnership Board of Directors and the Government Relations Council of the American Bankers Association. From 1999 to 2008, he was member of the Massachusetts Bankers Association’s State Legislative and Regulatory Affairs Committee, and served as its chairman from 2004 to 2006. From 1986 to 1996, he was a member of the Massachusetts Mortgage Bankers Association (MMBA) Board of Directors. He was chairman of the MMBA board in 1994 and served at other times as its secretary, treasurer and vice chairman. At the local level, he has served as treasurer of the Sudbury Housing Authority and as a member of the Natick Strategic Planning Oversight Committee.
Heerwagen is a graduate of Princeton University and has a master’s degree in community and regional planning from Harvard University.
John P. Clancy Jr., Board Member
John (Jack) P. Clancy Jr. is Chief Executive Officer for Enterprise Bank. Headquartered in Lowell, Massachusetts, Enterprise Bank has $1.4 billion in assets and 18 branches located throughout the Merrimack Valley, North Central Massachusetts, and Southern New Hampshire.
Clancy began his career at Enterprise Bank in 1988 as Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer and later became Chief Operating Officer. He was named Chief Executive Officer in January 2007.
Clancy is a lifelong resident of the Greater Lowell area with personal ties to many of the communities his bank serves. He graduated summa cum laude from the University of Lowell (now UMass Lowell) and has successfully completed the Harvard Business School's Advanced Management Program.
Aaron Gornstein, Board Member
Aaron Gornstein is the Undersecretary in the state’s Executive Office of Housing and Community Development. He previously served as the Executive Director of Citizens’ Housing and Planning Association (CHAPA) from 1990 to January 2012. CHAPA is a private, non-profit research and advocacy organization working on affordable housing and community development issues in Massachusetts. During his tenure, CHAPA spearheaded the passage of major state and federal legislation and program reforms, conducted important research studies, sponsored hundreds of trainings for practitioners, organized new coalitions that connect affordable housing to other policy areas, and launched programs to increase homeownership and rental opportunities for low and moderate income residents.
Prior to becoming Executive Director of CHAPA, Aaron was a neighborhood planner for the City of Cambridge, Massachusetts and the director of housing for the Tri-City Community Action Program, a community agency in Malden, Massachusetts. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Wisconsin--Madison and his graduate degree from Tufts University’s Department of Urban and Environmental Policy.
He has received nearly 20 local and national awards and fellowships for his work in advancing affordable housing and community development initiatives and has served on numerous local and national advisory boards and commissions.
Nicolas P. Retsinas, Board Member
Nicolas P. Retsinas was named to the MHP board of directors in 2004. He is a Senior Lecturer in Real Estate at the Harvard Business School where he teaches courses in housing finance and real estate in emerging markets. He is also Director Emeritus of Harvard University’s Joint Center for Housing Studies, a collaborative venture of the Graduate School of Design and the Harvard Kennedy School of Government.
Prior to Harvard, he was Assistant Secretary for Housing-Federal Housing Commissioner at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. President Clinton also appointed him Director of the Office of Thrift Supervision. He has also served on the boards of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, the Federal Housing Finance Board and the Neighborhood Reinvestment Corporation.
Mr. Retsinas received his master’s degree in city planning from Harvard University and his undergraduate degree in economics from New York University.
Rebecca Deusser, Board Member
Rebecca Deusser is the Deputy Secretary of Policy and Planning in the state's Executive Office for Administration and Finance (A&F). She serves on the MHP board as a designee for A&F Secretary Jay Gonzalez.
Prior to her arrival at A&F, Ms. Deusser held the position of Policy Director for Governor Deval Patrick after serving as the Governor's Deputy Press Secretary. Ms. Deusser has extensive experience in politics and journalism through her previous work on state campaigns and local media publications.
Ms. Deusser received her master's degree in Science and Medical Journalism from Boston University and her bachelor's degree from Mount Holyoke College.
